‘Half the Wolf I Know’ starts unassuming with a backdrop of synth, a simple premise before the curtains are drawn to reveal the catchy chorus. The track comes into its own as it progresses, layered and varied towards the penultimate chorus. I can hear MGMT, LCD Soundsystem, Kate Bush and Lana Del Rey in there but the sound is distinctly belongs to London King.
London King is the pseudonym of London singer-songwriter Kiara Isbella M. Monroe. Kiara explains about the track that it has a “deep, strong meaning to me. I wrote it about my personal struggle with depression and anxiety, which held me back with live performances and daily life. The song in general is a message of hope and dealing with struggles in life with resilience.” It certainly does that, it’s a strong and powerful track skilfully woven together with personality and style. It feels like a manifesto for which London King can build on. It’s a classy record to be proud of and I’m looking forward to see what this interesting artist’s next move is.
