Big Joanie release debut album ‘Sistahs’

Big Joanie describe themselves as being “like The Ronettes filtered through 80s DIY and riot grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis.”  Their debut album ‘Sistahs’ is an absolute triumph.  It’s a sophisticated offering, deliciously cool with sprinklings of Nirvana, Joy Division and Sigur Ross.  Debbie Harry vocals, call back, poppy tracks sit alongside the thoughtful and moody.  Springy pop numbers Token and How Could You Love Me standout.  Sistahs is the album you’ve been waiting for: catchy, powerful and a lot of fun.

Favourite track: How Could You Love Me

FFO: Skinny Girl Diet, Nova Twins, Nirvana, Heavens To Betsy, Sacred Paws, Joy Division, Bratmobile, Aye Nako, The Julie Ruin, Parquet Courts
